Stellar Views Around Anchorage
Are you visiting the Anchorage area for a short amount of time? Whether flying in to catch the train down to Seward to get on your cruise, or making a quick pit stop on your way to another Alaskan destination, here are some suggestions to get the most bang for your buck when it comes to views around Anchorage.
Located near Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage, consists of walking, hiking and ski trails in the winter. If you are looking to see some beautiful views, with easy trails and almost a 100% guarantee of seeing some sort of local wildlife, definitely give this area a chance.
Located approximately 25 minutes North of Anchorage in Eagle River, this spot will not disappoint. With easy to moderate walking trails, and killer views, this area is definitely one to check out any time of year! Its also one of my family’s most favorite places to go for a quick and beautiful hike.
Located about 20 minutes south of Anchorage, there is a beautiful viewpoint that attracts all sorts of people. The train tracks run right by it, so beware! But many times you can see belugas in the waves, dahl sheep on the rock cliffs above or simply get to watch as the tide goes in or out. Along with some awesome views of the Turnagain Arm, its definitely worth a visit.
On the way out of South Anchorage, there is a large marsh. Potter Marsh is home to many beautiful birds and other wildlife. Its an easy walk out on a boardwalk-like viewing deck.
